Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th January) (2026)

Gaming Plans for the Weekend: What's on Your Playlist for January 10th, 2026?

Time flies, doesn't it? 2026 is already off to a roaring start! But amidst the hustle and bustle, there's always time for a good game. We're diving into what the Nintendo Life team plans on playing this weekend – and we want to hear about your gaming adventures too!

Nintendo News Flash: Catch Up on the Latest!

In case you've been living under a rock (or, you know, just really engrossed in a game), here's a quick recap of the biggest Nintendo headlines this week. First off, retro gaming fans rejoice! Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, a GameCube classic, has landed on the GameCube NSO app for the Switch 2. It's a fantastic addition for those craving some strategic RPG action. This is a big deal for fans who have been clamoring for more GameCube titles on the Switch 2.

And for those who like to customize, get ready to express yourself! Nintendo is releasing brand-new Joy-Con colors in just a few days. Get ready to coordinate your controllers with your favorite games or create a unique, eye-catching look.

We also got a fresh look at Mario Tennis Fever with a new overview trailer. The game seems to be packed with features and content, promising hours of fun on the court. But here's where it gets controversial... Some fans are worried about the potential for microtransactions in a sports title. What do you think? Is it a legitimate concern, or are people overreacting?

Finally, the rumor mill is churning once again, suggesting that Call of Duty might finally be making its way to Nintendo platforms this year. This would be a monumental shift, potentially opening up the Switch 2 to a whole new audience. Will it happen? Only time will tell, but the possibility is definitely exciting.

Team NL's Weekend Gaming Lineup:

Let's see what the Nintendo Life crew is playing this weekend!

Gavin Lane, Editor

"It's a 'same again, please' kind of week for me. Cast n Chill, Skate Story, and Expelled are still holding strong on my Switch 2's home screen. And, of course, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance has joined the party thanks to its release on the GameCube NSO app. I even snuck in a little Shinobi with my morning coffee – a perfect way to start the day!

I'll also be trying my best to resist the allure of the eShop sale. Gotta be responsible, especially with those post-holiday tax bills looming! Have a great weekend, everyone."

Ollie Reynolds, Staff Writer

"I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I need to be in the right headspace to dive in. So, I often take long breaks before revisiting the galaxy far, far away. The upside is that there's always a ton of new content to enjoy when I finally return. This weekend, I'm tackling Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, both on the PS5.

The Switch 2 is also getting some love. I'm currently playing Star Wars Outlaws, and it's truly remarkable. Ubisoft really nailed it; the game is incredibly fun, with a wonderful sense of place and immersion. It's the kind of game that makes you want to explore every nook and cranny."

Jim Norman, Staff Writer

"I can't remember the last time my weekend gaming plans were dominated by free demos, but here we are! I haven't had a chance to try the demos for Final Fantasy VII Remake or Dragon Quest VII Reimagined yet, and I'm super excited to jump in. And this is the part most people miss... Demos are a great way to try before you buy, but they can also be a bit dangerous! I'm slightly terrified of falling in love with both games and ending up with two massive RPGs to tackle at the start of the year. It's a risky game I play!

Oh, and I was lucky enough to get Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2 over the holidays. I've been busy exploring all the side quests that I intentionally avoided when I first heard it was coming to the hybrid. May the Force be with you, dear readers!"

"As a Portuguese native, I never get tired of hearing Portuguese NPCs speaking fluent Portuguese in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. They seem to be everywhere in the game, and I really hope things work out for them in the end (historical spoilers: they don't!). I'm not sure what percentage of the main story I've completed, but I'll definitely be spending many hours this weekend in virtual 16th century Japan.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond left me wanting more trooper-based action, so after a four-year hiatus, I reinstalled Halo: The Master Chief Collection on STEAM and resumed my single-player campaign marathon where I left off (two-thirds into Halo 2). Having just finished (and loved) Halo 3 ODST, I'm moving on to Halo 4.

My game of the week is actually a demo: Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is just a very cozy JRPG that ticks all my boxes. I hope to finish the demo before the real villain shows up: Monday!"
