A Last-Minute Adventure with Dad: A Tale of Travel and Family
In this edition of my trip report series, I'm excited to share a unique journey that I recently embarked on with my dad. It's a story of spontaneous planning, unexpected twists, and the joy of exploring new destinations together.
The Journey Begins: A Surprise Round the World
Life has a way of throwing curveballs, and in this case, it led to a last-minute adventure. Initially, I had planned a trip to Morocco with my dad, but a series of unexpected illnesses within the family changed our plans. By the time we were ready to travel, we had just five days available, which felt too short for a proper Moroccan adventure.
But here's where it gets interesting: my dad, ever flexible and understanding, suggested we reschedule and make the most of the time we had. And so, a new plan was born.
Emirates First Class: A Father's Favorite
As soon as I could travel again, I jumped at the chance to book Emirates First Class from New York to Milan. Emirates First Class holds a special place in my dad's heart, and the last time he experienced it was on a surprise round-the-world trip to celebrate his "round" birthday. I knew this would bring him immense joy, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
I booked our flights without a second thought, trusting that the journey itself would be memorable. And it was! We boarded our Emirates A380, excited for the adventure ahead, with no return journey planned. My dad, the perfect travel companion, was happy to go with the flow.
Exploring Frankfurt: A City of Surprises
After our Emirates experience, we headed to Frankfurt, a city I've always been curious about. I booked our flights with Air Dolomiti, and we were off! Frankfurt offered a unique blend of history and modernity, and we were eager to explore.
Lufthansa First Class: A Smooth Return
For our return to the US, I booked Lufthansa First Class, known for its exceptional service and comfort. We flew on their A340-600, soon to be retired, and enjoyed every moment of the journey. It was a perfect return, as Ford and Miles joined us in Boston, their flight landing just an hour after ours.
Hotel Highlights: A Mix of Luxury and Nostalgia
Our hotel stays were a mix of luxury and unique experiences. We started with the Park Hyatt Milan, a spectacular hotel with a central location. It was a perfect choice for our first nights.
In Frankfurt, we stayed at two Marriott Autograph Collection properties, the Falkenstein Grand and Villa Rothschild. These hotels were a long-time curiosity for me, and I was thrilled to finally experience them. Villa Rothschild, with its 22 rooms, felt like staying in a grand country estate.
But the highlight of our trip was yet to come. We reunited with Ford and Miles in Boston, where we stayed in a very special suite themed after the beloved children's book, "Goodnight Moon." Ford, having spotted this unique offering, booked it immediately, and we were glad we did. It was a magical experience, and a tribute to the book that has brought us so much joy.
Philadelphia: A City of Lounges and Luxury
Our journey then took us to Philadelphia, a city I was eager to explore. We checked into the Four Seasons Philadelphia, a highly acclaimed hotel known for its excellence. Philadelphia also offered a chance to visit some lounges I've been curious about, making it a perfect addition to our trip.
A Heartwarming Conclusion
Despite not making it to Morocco or Japan as initially planned, our trip was an absolute success. It goes to show that the company you travel with can make all the difference. I'm grateful for the time spent with my dad, and the memories we created. I can't wait to share more details in my upcoming review series, including flight musings and full hotel reviews. Stay tuned, and happy travels!
And this is the part most people miss: travel is about the people you share it with. It's not always about the destination, but the journey and the connections made along the way. What do you think? Share your thoughts and travel stories in the comments below!
